your memories. forever.

From our first interaction together to the final delivery of images, my goal is to make you feel like the experience of getting your photos taken is something you enjoy.

I'm a multi-passionate creative who understands that good photography can make you feel honored and cherished. And to create good photography, I've invested in education and equipment to make your experience truly amazing.

I used to question the word "investment" for photography. As we swap out photos in frames for new ones every so often, are they really appreciating in value? On the days I slow down enough to look through albums it's an absolute yes. Those memories, those feelings... They're priceless.

About Your Session

Those memories,
those feelings...

PRICELESS.

how do I know i'll get great photos?

We'll talk and determine what your vision is, the type of location you want and whether you plan to buy prints through me. Is there a particular look or feel you're going for? Any concerns you've had with photography in the past?

This sets the tone for how I'll ultimately prepare for your session (custom or a standard package).

Unless we're scheduling an indoor shoot, I push for all outdoor sessions to be around sunrise/sunset.

Identify your needs

At this point, you'll receive a price based on the scope we discussed in our initial conversation -- scroll down to see starting pricing below. I'll also send a contract to ensure we're both on the same page with expectations for each other.

Take a look at my work. You'll notice that my style is bright and colorful. If that's not your vibe, hey, that's ok. But if you love this look, we'll have great results.

Once you book your session by paying the $75 deposit, we're ready to roll. It's good for up to 1 year. You can also split up payments if it's easier for you.

share expectations and schedule

As we approach our session together, I'll share best tips and practices for preparing for your session. Hint: This means there's a bit of reading involved on your part, but it's not terrible, I promise.

My best clients are those that trust my creative judgment and offer value-added input. But more importantly, they can go with the flow when I make creative decisions, toss out ridiculous prompts or poses and enter with a relaxed attitude, especially when kids are involved.

plan and prepare

Deliver and Delight

During our session, I focus on the best LIGHT first, to flatter you, then the best scene second. I know you love the beautiful backdrop of that pond, but if you have raccoon eyes because of the sun, I haven't done my job.

Within 48 hours I'll tease a photo. In about 2-3 weeks, you'll receive edited high-resolution and web-resolution images in a private gallery. Any extensive edits outside of basic exposure, contrast, white balance, or some mild color adjustments may require outsourcing.

From there, the images are all yours to use! I'd love to hear how they're working out for you, and always appreciate when clients share their images in use.

I know what it's like to put financial trust in something that you want to turn out well. Here are the 5 steps that -- if we both promise to willingly collaborate together -- will ensure success.

portrait fees

1. TAXES
As licensed business owners, photographers are beholden to the government, so a whopping 30% of our GROSS income goes toward taxes.

Based on tax requirements, we're then responsible for an extra 8%+ toward our state of business.

This means that if a photographer only charged $50 per session, only $32 hits our pocket, before the rest of the charges that you'll see -- if you're curious to click through.

2. SOFTWARE AND EQUIPMENT
After taxes, another percentage of NET income goes toward a mix of editing, gallery software and other necessary software and camera equipment. These are often monthly expenses that, during slow seasons, have to "float" from our savings.

Also, that camera? Chances are that between lenses, a flash/strobes, camera body, batteries and memory cards, your photographer is carrying the equivalent of at least a month's worth of your salary.

3. MARKETING
After taxes and equipment, we have to consider even the most basic marketing needs. Namely, a website which is generally the cost of an average rate photo session. Let's not forget about business cards.

Social media is also a "pay for play" platform for businesses. While we rely heavily on word of mouth referrals, we also have to expand our reach to get new clients for a steady stream of business. Marketing is a fee included in the cost of just about every product or service you buy.

4. MISCELLANEOUS
After taxes, equipment, and marketing there are other random charges we have to face.

- Health insurance. There's no company plan and it's crazy expensive for self-employed.
- 401K. No company is matching our investments, assuming we have money left over to even invest.
- Business insurance to cover the risk of damaged or stolen equipment
- Credit card fees = 2.9%+
- Business software for, you got it, accounting and taxes.

5. EDUCATION
After taxes, equipment, marketing, and miscellaneous charges, your photographer is bringing thousands of dollars and years of education to each session.

In the simplest sense, what's your degree and experience worth? Our industry is constantly changing with new technology and techniques that require ongoing time and financial investments.

In the end, we want our clients to be happy and we'll do anything we can to make them have the best experience while being able to put food on the table.

6. TIME
After taxes, equipment, marketing, miscellaneous expenses and education, the most important "cost" of all is TIME.

Unlike money, time is not a renewable resource.

Your photographer determines an hourly value of their time, when all expenses are stripped away. You'd be surprised that many photographers are making intern-level rates. Like you, we also value our weekends and often neglect our spouses and children to lovingly serve our clients.

I understand how hard it is to find the right photographer and trust the results. You have priorities for your finances and those priorities can shift from season to season.

I'm invested in what I do -- from my time and my process to to give you good keepsakes that will evoke incredibly happy emotions when you view your album.

There are so many questions about photography because of the disparage of pricing across our industry -- from full rights access to charging for digital downloads. While every photographer prices their services differently and for their income needs, I do want to explain why sessions can often feel like an investment for your budget.

In the end, you either value your photographer's skill and the investment in your memories or not. That's ok. No judgment here.
